Have you ever wondered whether you missed your chance to start something new? Maybe life took an unexpected turn, your plans fell apart, or you’ve spent years putting everyone else’s needs ahead of your own.
If so, you’ll want to meet Sharen Eddings.
Sharen is a self-taught coder, entrepreneur, and educator from Detroit. Facing financial uncertainty and the need to provide for her family, she taught herself to code in just eight months, without a computer science degree. That leap landed her in automotive software development, where she helped develop Blind Spot Detection technology. Within a year and a half, she was managing two teams.
Then she kept pivoting. Volunteering at her son’s school inspired her to launch Code with Sharen, a STEM e-learning platform for underserved communities. When the pandemic forced another change, she founded Rapido Spanish, a language-learning platform built around immersive, hands-on learning.
In this episode, we talk about:
- How Sharen’s hardest seasons became her biggest turning points
- Why learning new skills isn’t reserved for the young
- Rethinking learning as something you do, not something to fear
- How growth became part of her healing
- Her “one line at a time” approach to big goals
- Why you’re not behind, and why it matters to live a life with a good story to tell
Sharen’s philosophy is simple. Even the most complex software is built one line of code at a time, and so is a new future. You don’t need a perfect roadmap. You need the next line: one lesson, one conversation, one step of faith.
If you’re starting over after a setback, considering a career change, or quietly wondering if it’s too late for you, this conversation is your reminder that your story is still being written.
